Kent in top five fastest at Jerez
Husqvarna rider Danny Kent continued his solid return to the ranks of Moto3 this week with impressive rides in the second round of official tests at Jerez, Spain.
The Red Bull Husqvarna Ajo factory rider is looking increasingly comfortable back in Moto3 after a season in Moto2. He wound up his week at fifth fastest in the combined times while fellow Husqvarna rider Niklas Ajo was a strong seventh.
Kent’s fastest lap came in the final session of Day Two of the tests after his team had made some improvements in the bike setup. He went below the previous circuit record and placed just 0.368 off the day’s quickest rider, Jack Miller.
Kent said he felt quite comfortable after his fastest lap but underlined that the team was working on constant improvement and consistency. “For me the main thing is just to change the way I work and to do as many consistent laps as possible to be ready for Qatar,” Kent said after Day Two.
Factory team boss Aki Ajo: “ Danny has improved both in his working and his lap times. Both he and Niklas were among the fastest riders here in Jerez".
Teams lost some time on Tuesday and Thursday due to adverse weather that held up the start of the sessions, but they were able to take advantage of good conditions on the Jerez circuit to put in three solid sessions on Wednesday.
One more round of official tests is scheduled, also at Jerez (March 11-13), before machinery and equipment are packed for shipping to Qatar for the start of the season on March 23. The first round of the season is also under lights.
